I love the internet.
Since my family turned on dial up when I was in 5th grade, I've been a little obsessed with the fact that I can go online and read about whatever I want. (Before that, I was an avid reader of our encyclopedia set.)
AOL instant messenger kept me connected to all of my friends in college. And in my 20s my RSS reader was filled with celebrity gossip websites and all of the noun & noun lady fitness bloggers, faithfully capturing every smoothie and overnight oatmeal.
I was an early adopter of facebook, twitter, and instagram.
A couple years ago I tried making a youtube channel (oooh not for me!) and then I gave podcasting a go (oooh yes for me!)
And now I turn to substack. Both as a way to wiggle away from the bigger platforms, and to stretch a part of my brain I haven't used in a while: long form writing.
The only diary most of us keep
In college I had a friend who kept a blog on Open Diary. We all marveled, you post your diary on the internet? But I realized recently that that's what we're all doing. I haven't kept a paper journal in years. When I want to get nostalgic and reflect on my life, it's either through the money trail (I used to use Mint to track expenses, now I'm a huge fan of Monarch Money) or it's my digital trail (instagram stories, mainly).
I'm not sure I want Meta to own my diary, so here we are.
What I'm eating My partner has been making these incredible stir-fry with rice and a huge batch of roasted veggies pre-prepped. Mine gets a scrambled egg in it and I can't stop asking for it.
What I'm watching We just started the Fosters. After watching Ted Lasso, I wanted more wholesome, and this is a show about a sweet couple that just can't stop taking in foster kids.
What I'm reading What You're Looking For is at the Library. More wholesome content, a magical librarian recommends books that lead people to make happy life changes.
How I'm moving my body Carefully. My low back has been grouchy grouchy so I'm doing yoga, pilates, and a ton of foam rolling. Plus lots of clamshells and bridges for glute strength because everything I know says weak glutes equals back pain.
What I'm obsessing about Whether I need a Dyson air wrap. Or the shark version. Or some other version! I have noticed that I feel 1,000% percent more capable when I blow dry my hair. That trendy Revlon hairbrush kind of changed my life because it makes my hair smooth and shiny in record time. I don't know if another upgrade will be even better or if I have peaked.
so so stoked that you’ve launched a substack as i am a big fan of the podcast! also, am curious to know if you mvped the launch ;)
No way, I am reading that right now too!
